At the ERA-MIN Roadmap Conference, 11-13 March 2013 in Lisbon, Protugal, experts from the academic and industrial community debated in Lisbon over the most important scientific and technological challenges which Europe currently faces in securing a sustainable supply of raw materials. Coordination among European research initiatives is needed in order to ensure long-term competitiveness of the European industry. The validation of the ERA-MIN Strategic Research Roadmap was the first step in this direction, and the main outcome of the conference.
The Roadmap lists the research priorities for the entire value chain of non-energy raw materials, including: primary resources, recycling, substitution, as well as horizontal topics such as policy support and international cooperation.
Research topics
The ERA-MIN Roadmap will generate the research topics to be funded under the ERA-MIN Joint Calls, while providing input for the Horizon 2020 and the European Innovation Partnership on Raw Materials. During the Conference, the first ERA-MIN Joint Call was announced to be published in April 2013. This Pilot Call will address research on primary continental and maritime resources.
ERA-MIN is a network of European organisations owning and/or managing research programs on raw materials.
It is currently comprising 11 partners from 9 countries. The number of partners is set to increase over the project’s lifetime to form a major network for the European non-energy mineral raw materials research community (ENERC).
